Dear Students and Faculty,

There are several IMPORTANT NEW requirements that clinical agencies are now implementing for clinical students and instructors. New JACHO mandates are being implemented at VMC regarding Fit 95 testing for personal respirators used in the care of TB patients.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: ALL students AND faculty working at VMC must be fit tested before BEGINNING THEIR CLINICAL PRACTICUM. The SJSU School of Nursing is required to comply with agency requirements, exception - VMC Semester 7 psych/mental health clinical students - do not need

 testing.)

WHO WILL DO THE TESTING?:

Technicians from Medi-Share Environmental Health & Safety Services

TESTING DATES:

Medi-Share will be on campus (Takes approx. ½ hour) to fit test students.  Testing will be done by appointment only.   Contact Trudy Miller--see below re: dates, times and location.

COST:

The cost to the individual being fit tested is $25.00. Checks should be made payable to: Medi-Share.

DOCUMENTATION:

You will receive a card documenting that you have received this training and fitting. Make a copy of this card and give it to your clinical instructor ASAP. It is valid for 1 year.

APPOINTMENT SIGNUP:

Please check the bulletin board outside of HB 409 for the sign-up sheet and a description of the procedure (the procedure is posted outside the Skills Lab also).

PROBLEMS/QUESTIONS?:

·        If you are unable to make either testing date, you will need to make your own fit test arrangements with Medi-Share.

·        You will not be able to attend clinical at VMC until you complete this trailing/testing.

·        Males should be clean shaven; if in doubt, bring your razor and be prepared to shave

Thank you for your cooperation in complying with this new and emergent agency requirement. If you have any questions please contact TRUDY MILLER:  tmiller@son.sjsu.edu
